Kitchen art

I have a slight obsession with chalkboards and chalkboard paint... it seems to be infiltrating my home and the kitchen is no exception! I had some 'artwork' in our breakfast nook that I wanted to update, so I grabbed my chalkboard paint and chalk and went to work.

I jumped on Pinterest for some inspiration and found this quote...

My drawing skills aren't up to this level, but I thought the quote was fun, so I sketched it out and then started to fill it in.

As with most of my DIY/crafty posts, there are a lot of great tutorials out there, so I won't go step by step. But, if you want to do something like this, keep in mind the following:

- Always prep your chalkboard before drawing. To do this, rub chalk all over the surface and erase. This will help with shadowing if you decide to change your chalk drawing later
- Use a pencil sharpener to keep your chalk lines more crisp
- Use wet chalk. The image on the right (above) is dry chalk, the one on the left is wet chalk after it dried
- I used regular chalk for this project. You can use chalkboard markers but I've read that it can be permanent on chalkboard paint. Since I might want to change this up (holidays, seasons, etc.) I went with the less permanent route

My finished artwork below! It isn't as intricate or cool looking as some of the Pinterest inspirations, but I'm happy with how it turned out.
